E302 – Thoughts on COVID-19 from May 2020

Fellow Investors,

How much has changed over the last 12 months?

This week, we are going to dive into a quasi-viral Facebook status I made about COVID-19 and the respective government lockdowns that shortly ensued. My status ended up getting nearly 200 likes, and 145 comments.

Especially in the early stages of COVID, things were changing every minute. In part because of that, I wanted to take a moment to review my thoughts, especially given what has taken place in the wake of the last 12 months.

Keep in mind, I wrote this status only 45-60 days after COVID-19 really started to gain popularity. Of course, a lot has changed since then!

In this short episode, we are going to review…

  • Why the ever-evolving infection fatality rate seemed to have zero impact on the prescribed of government lockdowns.
  • Some of the unique anomalies that were apparent VERY early on (example: the homelessness population wasn’t suffering as most would have thought)
  • The economic and societal impacts of the government lockdowns and why they must be opposed

While this is a bit off the beaten path, I think it’s important to discuss the topic on this show given what ensued from an investor perspective.
